A Saturday in Central Park
This last Saturday, Jacob and I went to Central Park to see a group called Gladiators NYC. They dress up in full medieval armor and fight with swords. It was so much fun! We got to Central Park really early so we could walk around for a bit first. Central Park is 2.5 miles long and a half mile wide, it's huge. We visited a few interesting points in the park.
First we saw the Obelisk, which is a giant Obelisk that was erected in ancient Egypt for Cleopatra. Then it was transported to Rome in like 600 BC, before it was eventually gifted to Central Park in the 1800s. It has heiroglyphics on it. We also walked through a wooded area of the park, and we hardly knew we were in the city it felt so peaceful!
We also saw Belvedere Castle that overlooks Turtle Pond. It's not a real castle, it just looks like one, and you can walk up it to look at the park and the pond. It's called Turtle Pond because it has lots of turtles! We only saw one turtle that day though.
There are also a lot of archways and bridges in Central Park, and we walked past the narrowest bridge in the whole park. The park volunteer told us that it's so narrow you can touch both sides with your arms outstretched. But I guess I'm a little shorter than him because I had to really stretch my fingers to touch both sides!
The gladiator fights were a lot of fun. We only saw the first two because by the time they started it was pretty hot outside and all the shady spots were full. The event was free, and it happens once a month.
The first fight was with big swords and shields, between Sir Simon and The Central Parker. The Central Parker won. The second fight was long swords, so they didn't have shields. I didn't catch the names of the fighters. The long swords was more exciting, because they could move quicker without the heavy swords and shields.
We'll have an update on our new apartment soon! We're still unpacking, but I added a picture of the place from when we first moved in. We have unpacked a lot but we still have a little organizing to do, and then we will share some more pictures!
We have lots of natural lighting, and the street is very quiet and peaceful, but we're still close enough to the train and to fun restaurants and things to do!
