Step 1, get the keys!
Dirty apartment?!?
Jen and I flew up our new neighborhood to pick up our keys and see the apartment for the first time (besides the walkthrough video from the landlord). We got there a day before the lease started and the landlord left the keys in the apartment with the door unlocked for us. We opened the door for the first time to see someone in the apartment which really caught us off guard. It turns out it was just the painter (also surprised), who didn't speak much english.
The place was incredibly dirty, and the painter said "no cleaner". With our landlord's office being closed, we didn't really have an easy way to get more info. Jen and I dropped our luggage off full of winter clothes and left for our hotel. We then explored our neighborhood a bit.

Williamsburg
Williamsburg itself is amazing, and full of great restaurants and bars. We went to the local park to relax and walk around. We were pretty stressed out about the dirty apartment, and basically couldn't stop talking about it.

A local man casually working out in public using equitment bought by his tax dollars.

Some young men were filming a skate video outside our apartment.

Very cute picture of us trying not to think about the filthy apartment.

We got some lunch at a Portuguese resturaunt called Peri Peri.
The next day
The next day we went back to take measurements, and to our surprise the apartment was clean! There was obviously some kind of miscommunication with the painter (lol), and it looks like the landlord had cleaners scheduled to come in at the literal last minute. After seeing the apartment clean, we were instantly in love with the place. It was probably the happiest we have been in a while!

Over and out
We spent the rest of our trip doing some extra cleaning of the apartment and exploring some local bars. We found one we already really like called "Duffs". It's a basement dive bar with a heavy metal theme. Now that we have the keys we are ready to move all our stuff. That will be the hardest part of this whole process. You can look forward to our next post, which should be after we are all moved in!
